Dozens killed in landslide in Colombia

A landslide in Colombia that buried a bus killed dozens. “I am saddened to report that to date, 27 people, including three minors, have lost their lives in the Pueblo Rico Risaralda tragedy,” President Gustavo Petro wrote on Twitter. He pledged to support the families of the victims. The president mentioned three deaths on Sunday evening (local time).

The landslide in northwest Colombia was triggered by heavy rains. The bus was hit between the villages of Pueblo Rico and Santa Cecilia in the province of Risaralda, about 230 km from the capital Bogotá. The governor of Risaralda said earlier that five people were taken alive from the bus.

The rainy season in Colombia is the worst in 40 years, according to the government. So far in 2022, more than 216 people have died and 538,000 people have been left homeless.
